Capo Mannu Tower
Capo Mannu Tower: The promontory on which the tower stands was
called “Capo las Salinas” in 1572 and “Monte delle Saline di
Oristano” in 1578. The current name, Capo Mannu, appeared in
Latin in 1590 and in Spanish as “Cabo Maño” in 1620. Built in 1572
to guard the cove of Su Pallosu and oversee the tuna fishery, the
tower watched over the north coast of Sinis as far as Is Arenas, the
cliffs of Santa Caterina, and the tower of Capo Nieddu. In 1572,
Camos indicated the construction of a simple tower to protect the
salt pans. In 1801, it was equipped with a gunner and two cannons,
spingarda and rifles, added to the existing equipment.
